The Federal Reserve Bank announced a quarter point interest rate hike in the federal funds rate on Wednesday March 29, 2006.  AmSouth Bank's Chief Economist responded by saying, "We're close to a high in interest rates, but I don't think we're there yet." This rate increase makes the United States  have the highest central bank interest rate of the world's major industrialized nations.  In other news AmSouth announced that profit rose one percent in it‘s first quarter report for 2006.
